My partner Cat and I went on holiday to Fiji and, in particular, Mana Island Resort, the island where a good chunk of the television show Survivor is shot. Here’s what we found.
Previously on Survivor Holiday - Mana Island Resort: Signs were ignored. Barbed wire was conquered. Giant platforms were found.
Day Six
Filled with enthusiasm for our trip to the islands on which the contestants make camp (and perhaps the prospect of mischievously hiding another fake immunity idol), we head back to the boat hire section of the resort shortly after lunch on Day Six, only to be informed that it is too windy to jet-ski over to the islands.
As we explore other non-jet-ski options, we also learn that an elderly American couple has already hired a boat to explore those islands. This is, inexplicably, the same boat we were told was unsuitable for getting over there yesterday, because jet-skis would obviously be better. (We later meet that American couple at dinner - they are ‘huge fans’ of the show, who have ‘watched every episode’, but who also don’t recognise the name of any player we mention, until we get to Rupert. ‘Such a shame he died,’ they then opine. And we don’t have the heart to tell them that maybe they’re thinking of Rudy?)
Disappointed, we return to the pool, only to discover that we have been outwitted, outplayed and outlasted! For while we were distracted by our boat-denying boat hiring businessman, the dogs from Day One have rallied the numbers!
Cat - target number one for the dogs as you’d expect - is voted off in a shocking blindside and sent home. I immediately follow (since Cat has the passports) and our Survivor journey comes to an untimely (or to be more precise, exactly as scheduled by our travel agent) end.
Will we be back for a returnee season? Perhaps. But, if so, we’re gonna keep an eye on those wily, damn dogs.
