My partner Cat and I went on holiday to Fiji and, in particular, Mana Island Resort, the island where a good chunk of the television show Survivor is shot. Here’s what we found.
Previously on Survivor Holiday - Mana Island Resort: An immunity idol was hidden in a Sanctuary log! Cat refused to stand on one leg. And Stephen Fishbach’s book was downloaded for reading.
Day Four
On the fourth day of our time on the island, we decided to explore the east coast of the island - a region so shrouded in mystery and danger that it was not only not included on the resort maps but also as we left the bounds of the resort, an employee wrote our room number in a notepad, presumably so that they could send out a search party in case we got lost in the local village and needed to be socially medevaced.
Frankly, a slightly disappointing direction in which to search. We were forced to stick to the coast for the most part, keeping a wary eye on the tide, which was coming in, as tides have done since time immemorial.
Oh, sure. We found a very freshly mown area, in which they are presumably going to set up a season 51 challenge.
And then, a little further along, we found another very freshly mown area for presumably a different season 51 challenge. But this time, with the exciting variation of a hill in the background.
Eventually, however, we came to a section of rock that appeared more or less impassable. Or, at least, impassable by us, especially since we were concerned about the incoming tide. Also, like so many Survivor contestants before us, we didn’t want to get our iPhones wet.
So we turned around and headed back to camp happy hour at the swimming pool bar, getting our room number checked off by the diligent(ish) man at the hotel resort boundary on the way, but vowing to approach this side of the island from the northern beaches tomorrow.
Tomorrow: Approaching this side of the island from the northern beaches!
