Justice League of America - Issue 6
Featuring the twin menaces of Amos Fortune and a dubious understanding of the laws of probability
The Justice League (aka the Justice League of America, aka the JLA, aka Justice League International, aka Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)) is a collection of the DC Universe's greatest heroes (and also Green Arrow).
I talked about why I love the JLA in this piece here. Now I’m breaking down each and every issue of the comic book, from their very first appearance, with Atom-sized summaries. Enjoy!
Thrilling new villain Amos Fortune shows up in issue six of Justice League of America where he reveals that he has the ability to manipulate probability via his ‘luck gland’. Sound improbable? That's precisely his point. Thanks to fittingly unlikely feats of stupidity from the Justice League, he captures them all and attaches them to a wheel of misfortune. However, he forgot to take into account that Martians are biologically immune to the concept of luck, and J’onn therefore escapes and defeats him. Unlucky, Amos.

It’s Martian Manhunter. Look at him heroically trying to change the subject away from the tiresome letter that Diana’s boring everybody silly with.
Top Panel
Wonder Woman is rightfully startled by Amos Fortune’s incessant talk about his glands and getting lucky.
