The Lord’s Slope
Grade: D

Some intriguing competence from Sri Lanka on the final morning saw them calmly negotiate a DRS-flailing England attack. Nightwatchman Prabath Jayasuriya fell, but Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews calmly led the visitors to the brink of the lunch break just three wickets down.

Even when Karunaratne fell, Dinesh Chandimal picked up his mantle of proficiency, meandering to a half-century of his own.

Could Sri Lanka possibly bat out the day? And could they find a couple of partnerships that would take them to a stunning victory?

No, of course not. The mountain was too high to climb. (Honestly, this Lord’s slope is getting ridiculous now.)
