Australia won the toss for the second T20 against South Africa, and elected to chase, with an eye towards the dew that would arrive at the ground and make batting easier.

Instead, the Dewald arrived at the ground to make batting the easiest thing in the world. And that’s a play on words that really only makes sense if you’re aware of South Africa’s new hot shot batter, 22 year old Dewald Brevis.

Brevis - referred to by the commentators as both ‘Baby AB’ and ‘Mr 360’ (come on Dewald, both are good nicknames, but make up your mind. Personally, I’d go with ‘Call me Baby AB, maybe’) - scored 125* (56), the highest score by a South African player in T20 international history. His onslaught ensured the visitors reached an imposing 7/218 from their twenty overs.

Sure, he had some luck, with a couple of top edges falling safely, but, as Mark Waugh pointed out on commentary: ‘Fortune favours the brave, and that’s what Brevis has been tonight.’

Oh, Junior. You were so close. A simple ‘Fortune favours the Brevis’, surely.

Regardless, a superb innings, and one that Brevis credited to God during the innings break interview with BJ. And you thought dabbling in sandpaper gave you an advantage!

Still, quite surprising that God showed up in Darwin to help Brevis reach his century, given who they named the city after. He really must be the forgiving type.
