Squeaking
Grade: D-
Not much to report here on this third and, as it turned out, final day. India managed to just squeak past Australia’s first innings lead to force them to bat again. But only just.
(And why were they squeaking, for goodness sake? Wild behaviour. Although perhaps I shouldn’t be too harsh on that. It’s a desperate situation and you might as well try anything.)
Perhaps the only highlight of the last portion of India’s innings was Annabel Sutherland dropping a diving chance in the slips. Pretty disappointing stuff from Sutherland. For how long can Australia afford to carry her?
Would Alyssa Healy bat again? She would not, with Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll instead scampering towards the 25-run target with unseemly and unwicketlossingly haste to secure a ten-wicket win.
Still, remember that men’s T20 World Cup? Not really? Can’t say I blame you. Turns out that India won that a few hours later while I was asleep. Good for them. Some small consolation for the disappointment of this Test match defeat, I suppose.
